How to sanitize your house on Or before the wedding!

Are you making plans for your wedding any soon? Between the cake, the flowers and the guest list, you have a lot on your plate when it comes to planning your big day. But have you thought about how you’ll prepare your home? Since you’ll likely be hosting guests for gatherings, pre-wedding activities, or even the ceremony and reception, you’ll want to be sure your house is ready. We understand the strain of a world pandemic is that the last item you wanted to stress about while planning your wedding! If you’re getting married locally, your house probably features in your festivities in some way. Perhaps the bridal party is dressing reception , you’re hosting a reception in your backyard, or out-of-town family is staying at your house. In each case, you’ll want your home to be clean, decorated and cosy for your wedding. Perhaps the most important aspect to consider in this situation is that the venue—be it your living room, terrace or lawn—is sanitised before the guests arrive. Having masks and sanitisers for everyone is a must.

Coronavirus is highly contagious and planning a wedding amid the spread of this deadly virus is very risky.

First, please inform all guests that if they feel sick, have a fever, or have recently been sick to please stay at home. Your guests should wear masks or provide the masks to your guests when they arrive. Another cute idea is to provide each guest with a small personalized hand sanitizer bottle to use in addition to the handwashing and sanitization stations at the venue.

In general, good cleaning habits include routine wiping of any surfaces that people frequently touch, like tables, door handles, light switches, cabinet handles, desks, toilets, and sinks. Cleaning means you’re getting obviate germs while disinfecting means you’re actually killing them. While you might clean surfaces effectively, that doesn’t mean you’re disinfecting, and you may run the risk that germs and bacteria could grow.

Before your big day, you’re likely going to put a lot of effort into getting your house clean and organized. If you’re planning on having a lot of company in the days leading up to your wedding, a robot vacuum can help you keep your floors spotless, with no effort from you. Simply power it on and let it do the heavy lifting when it comes to dirt, dust and hair on your floors.

Household cleaners that have a diluted bleach solution, alcohol solutions with at least 70 per cent alcohol, and most common EPA-registered household disinfectants should be effective at disinfecting. But make sure you have good ventilation and wear gloves while using them. The venue will also sanitize all door handles, bathroom areas, and handrails every hour. Look for disinfectants that can kill bacteria, viruses and fungi when used properly.

Ways to clean up!

In the kitchen, remember foodborne bacteria can live on surfaces, so clean everything that food touches.

If you use disposable wipes, use more than one. You should use enough to leave a surface visibly wet for at least four minutes afterwards before it air-dries.

If you are using an automatic dishwasher, make sure the water temperature is at 140 degrees F and you’re using a dishwasher detergent that contains chlorine bleach as one of the ingredients.

Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces daily in household common areas e.g. tables, hard-backed chairs, doorknobs, light switches, remotes, handles, desks, toilets, sinks.

When cleaning and disinfecting, wear disposable gloves and discard them after every use. If you’re using re-usable gloves, use them ONLY for cleaning and disinfecting; don’t use them for any other purpose. And wash your hands after you remove the gloves.

Usual cleaning schedules will need to be increased.

Frequently touched surfaces (such as handrails, scanners, plant controls, machinery and doors) should be cleaned regularly using an appropriate detergent solution.

Personal items used in the workplace such as glasses and phones should be cleaned and disinfected frequently.

Workplace amenities including kitchens, lunchrooms, communal areas, change rooms, toilets, drinking fountains and vending machines, should be cleaned industrially and the frequency of this cleaning should increase.

Food preparation areas and equipment and front of house areas should be cleaned and the frequency of cleaning should be increased.

Handwashing facilities or alcohol-based hand sanitiser should be available for workers to use after they dispose of their waste.

Physical distancing to be maintained by all workers, members, participants and visitors.

You can create your own diluted household bleach solution, but be careful about it. Never mix bleach with ammonia or another type of cleanser. For surfaces that cannot be wiped down, like those of sofas and carpets, it is best to use a disinfectant spray. Spray it over the entire surface and it dries completely before sitting down or walking over it.

Your shoes may also track in a lot of dirt and along with it the virus as well. It is advisable to use a mixture of one cup of bleach in 5 gallons of water to clean the kitchen and bathroom floors. Be careful of using bleach on wooden flooring. You can use a mixture of white vinegar and water for wooden flooring.

This all should be done before and after the wedding. COVID-19 may cause changes to your wedding but we know Love, Laughter and a Happily Ever After will always be true! Cheers to Safety! We hope you found the information valuable and were able to get some great tips along the way!!
